Yeast Infection Treatment
Posted on: September 7, 2011
Vaginal yeast infections occur when the Candida fungus, which is naturally present in the vagina, multiplies due to an imbalance or acidity change. The most common treatment for a yeast infection is an antifungal medication, which may be applied directly to the infected area or taken orally. Although over-the-counter remedies for yeast infections are available, studies have shown that many women who use these remedies do so after misdiagnosing their yeast infection. Using over-the-counter antifungal medications too often can result in the body building up a resistance to the medication, making future yeast infections much more difficult to treat.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Candidiasis
